Darren has chosen to close down Bulldog Cafe, and book at a place a little bigger than Bulldog down in Brandenburg.  The place is called greenwave music hall.
No stage, barely any lights or pa.
you can check out the venues myspace... the pics I saw of it, looks like a church basement.

But tomorrow is the last show ever at Bulldog.  Terry is trying to have it drawn out til his upcoming benefit show on Jan 3.
If any of you give a fuck about the bands, you should come.  Because it'll be the last time.

I will give my own little RIP to the place.  I've participated in a lot of cool events there.  I have a lot of memories there over the past almost-decade.

Terry talked to Darren, and Darren is going to talk to the Landlord about having it at Bulldogs still, to make it the official last show there.  I believe as of now, it's just a wait and see what the landlord said.  Terry was talking to Darren about it today.

Sticking anything in Brandenburg is suicide...wtf, there isn't damn thing out there.  Been a few years since I've been there, but there was only one fucking red light in the entire town.

Well, Brandenburg is slowly growing.

but,

the music scene here consist of musicians with 15W Practices amps and thirteen year old kids addicted to cigarettes.

This explains Darren's move to B-burg.

Guess they will have to put in some effort instead of having shows handed to them from Bulldogs.  When i was a youngster if we wanted to play a show bigger than a crummy basement at someones party we had to pull resources and rent halls and that type of thing.  Perhaps its time to get back to that way of thinking rather than having the local venues hold all of the cards.  We, as musicians, don't NEED venues to have shows.  You just have to put in more work and put events together yourself.

For some reason that inspired the hell right of me!! haha i agree, you cant let that get in your way, nd hell if theres no shows than, hit indiana, tennessee. Greatness  can be bred in louisville, brandenburg, eliZABETH town, but it needs to grow somewhere else or its only going to get so big~!!! so right on!! haha

WOW I must say this is news. I knew Darren was opening another venue in Brandenburg but I didn't know he would be shutting down Bulldogs.
I agree with Rick C though. Back in my younger days playing out as well we had to look outside of the box and work for our shows!! Calling different rental halls, booking the bands ourselves, running the door, etc.... It really helps bands to gain that well earned mileage.
If some bands do decide to start renting halls or what not I'd love to help and be involved with those shows. We at ARC Audio Engineering have a Live Sound & Lighting department. We can also do audio recordings of your live shows in multi-track form and give you a CD at the end of your show or take it back to the studio and do mixing and editing to give your production a little bit more polished sound for CD selling.

In this town, the more things change the more they stay the same. It will probably only be a matter of time before Bulldogs is re-opened as something new. I mean how many different people have owned the the Thunderdome?

There was only one real Thunderdome and to open it the right way again somebody is going to have to knock a wall down.

Legally (with liquor anyway)

All ages shows have to either be done at midnight, they have to kick out everybody under 18, or cover up the booze and stop selling it.

As far as permits and shit go I don't know. I do know that the hill has to have a permit for chili cook off and things like that but if that helps any. It is all a money game with the govt but I am sure that is not a surprise to anybody.

Of the few times I ventured into the Bulldog Cafe, I am in sheer amazement that it has stayed open this long.

Sucks that we don't have an easy place to get shows any more. This could turn out to be a good thing in the long run though. If there are less venues that means less shows. Less shows means that more people will be coming to the same place at the same time. This means more money for bands, and in the end exposure to more people. Less shows means that all bands need to bring their a-game. You'll actually have to be able to draw a crowd with your music. If you suck other bands won't want you on the show because you'd be Capt No-fans. Then when you do get a show you'll have to work your ass off to promote it. Right now we have too many shows with too many bands on the bill. Especially at BDC.

Supply and demand.

Or not.

The place was great for a while and has many memories for me. Hell that's where I most most of you all and where I learned the basics of live sound.
I definitely saw it's decline though, attendance wise and performance wise from the venue. There seemed to be very little professionalism in the whole scheme of things. From too many bands, to workers not showing up, and the place falling down and trying to cater to the youth. Im actually suprised it's lasted this long.
I have no bad words to Darren, he is a great guy who has helped me to where I am now and gave me the majority of my shows. I just wish he would have had some more intelligent people helping him in his endeavor.
This new venue just seems like financial suicide and I have a strong feeling nothing will come out of it.

I wish Darren the best of luck and hope everything works out for him.

RIP Bulldogs. Memories will be missed.
