How long did that take you Donnie?

We should call that the Louisville Local Music Scene Ten Commandments Plus, or Booking for Dummies.

Thanks Jeff. You know Amy says we could be related by our looks, but I insist you're too pretty to be my kin.  Wink

lol ..you got jipped brother Bill. Well, admittedly it has been several years since I last donated, so it may be less. Anyway, it didn't take that long. The band list and such I already had made over time for my own use. I was recovering from being sick last night and had nothing to do, so I got some coffee and wrote the rest this morning.

I just really encourage other people with more experience than we have to add information. Sonic is still very new compared to a lot of the vets in the scene.

Thats what the place off Dixie paid a few years ago.  You get like 50 the first time you go but then you get 30 and then it goes down based on weight.  I dont do that anymore since BP is high.

Donnie........wonderful dude!!!!

To all of the younger bands and musicians.....take some notes from this man.  There are alot of people in our scene, including myslef, that have delt with him numerous times, and the one thing that you could always count on from this man was professionalism.  Always be honest and upfront when dealing with shows/promoters/venues.  Sometimes you will hear things that you don't like, and sometimes you will tell someone else something they don't like.  The key is that you are always professional & honest.  This is the only thing that will gain you respect.

You don't always have to agree with everyone around town that you deal with......but as long as your honest, upfront & professional you can NEVER go wrong.

...rock shows rap shows punk shows harcore shows u name it we played em and it got to the point to where our crowd was so diverse it didnt matter who we played in front of we had fans....diversity sometimes it can bite ur ass but more than none it will bring ya more

Nick - Thanks very much. I should add on here my review of your stint in the promoter realm, just in case you ever decide to get back into it. For anyone curious, Nick is a top notch fella. In our dealings he was always a straight shooter, very forthcoming and accomodating. He is a man of his word and will treat you respectfully, I think much of that comes from his being an artist himself. The few shows we worked together with Nick were good experiences. He is definitely right about keeping communication honest and professional being one of the keys to success. It makes it far easier to resolve disagreements without destroying your relationship with the business you're trying to build.

Van - I appreciate it. You make a good point, especially given that Incursion is still to this day as popular as it is because so many people of all musical backgrounds enjoy it. Diverse shows do indeed bring a lot of different people together that may find they can really appreciate music they may never have delved into before. The only thing I would caution against is oversaturation, but taking a lot of shows (especially in the beginning) certainly has a place in building the reputation. Fact is, Van is among those I (and many others) consider "Vets" of the scene. The bands he has been a part of locally have enjoyed success in no small part due to the fact he is talented, knows his craft, and is aware of the do's and don'ts of building a respected position in original music.

Bill - That pic made me lol. Thanks for that, it was thoughtful. I'm not shooting to be recognized for this stuff - anyone could have put this information together. I was sick, bored, and decided to try to be productive in an area that I felt was worthwhile.

Shapeless - You're very kind. Thank you.

The most important thing to me is for the musicians on this forum to use it to benefit themselves and each other on the whole. We're need not be as fragmented as we may have seemed in the past. All of us can gain from the experiences and knowledge shared whether you've been involved for 10 years or 10 days. Help keep young bands away from the shitty promoters, help veteran bands find new places to play out of town, etc.

I have a Metallica cut off shirt. Mainly because its 9 years old and the sleeves had holes under the arms. So I broke a commandment.
